Little Town, but too much to see. Kremnica (German: Kremnitz, Hungarian: Körmöcbánya, Latin: Cremnicium) is a town located in the district of Žiar nad Hronom. Since the 10th century, gold and silver have been mined in the city and its surroundings. Kremnica has been a free royal mining town since 1328 and since the 14th century it has been nicknamed Zlatá Kremnica. The city is home to the Kremnica Mint, which is the oldest mint still in existence in the world. The Town Castle in Kremnica is a national cultural monument. The town is located in the Kremnica Mountains. On our tour, you will have a chance to see more beauties of this town. Depends on the day that you will choose for your visit, you will have a chance to try a different activities. We can visit 'Kremnická mincovňa' The oldest mint in the World or museum of money and see the history of money / coins production. We will make a walk in this little, but very nice town and we can see the 'Street of famous noses', if they will be open, we can taste 'Atkáryho Kremnické krumple' - local sweet with over 100 years old tradition, we can visit Kremnica castle and see breath taking view from castle tower, or we can try adventure in Mine Andrej (depends on the season). From Kremnica town, we will move near Kremnické bane village, where you can step on Geographical midpoint of Europe. On the way home, there is an option to extend this trip and to buy extra stops, to taste traditional Slovak meal in near Salas, or visit thermal spring in nature Lukavica or go for cave swimming in Sklene Teplice spa. --- In 2028, the mint will celebrate 700 years of continuous operation, making the company one of the oldest continuously producing enterprises in the world. The Kremnica Mint, a state-owned enterprise, is a Slovak state mint based in Kremnica. On November 17, 1328, it was founded by King Charles I, who promoted the town of Kremnica from a settlement to a city and granted it the privilege to operate a mint. The mint in Kremnica has been continuously producing coins for almost seven centuries.In addition to coins and medals, they also produce plaques, tokens, badges, decorations, mayor's chains, orders and many other products. On 24 February 2011, the Kremnica Mint became part of the European Cultural Heritage --- The Town Castle in Kremnica was declared a national cultural monument in 1970 as a unique architectural monument of medieval settlement and fortification. It consists of a set of buildings from the 14th – 15th centuries. --- Geographical midpoint of Europe GPS: N48°44'38'' E18°54'48'' In a beautiful place near Kremnické Bane in central Slovakia, there is a stone erected next to the ancient Church of St. John the Baptist. It announces that this is where the geographical center of Europe is located. This important geographical point is marked by a small monument by the defensive wall of the church.
