Guitar Museum

All guitar fans should expect something of rare occurrence in the town of Sobrance. In the easternmost town of Slovakia there is a unique, the only guitar museum in Europe and only the second worldwide!

If you are you a guitar fan, and have never visited this unique museum, now it is the right time! The museum is situated only about 200 m (218 yd) from the town center. Its visitors can see almost complete collection of electronic guitars from the years 1947 to 1980.

Over 25 years, the comprehensive collection of its founder, Ján Ferko, has exceeded an incredible number of 1000 exhibits which can hardly be seen together in any other place.

In the museum there are exhibited about 200 contemporary guitars, keyboards, amps, accessories and documentation.

Apart from the permanently expanding gallery of instruments of known musicians among the most valuable ones are the export guitar Gracióso, which was used also by George Harrison at the beginning of his career, and amplified basses together with Hawaiian guitars, awarded at the World Exhibition EXPO '58 in Brussels, Belgium. Besides these, you can also find precious pieces which were donated to the museum by Petr Janda from the band Olympic, Mato Durinda from Tublatanka and other Slovak music personalities.

Another attraction of this museum is certainly the complete documentation of beginnings, development and individual artistic stages of the legendary band Beatles, including commentary on the guitars this Liverpool quartet played in the time of its biggest popularity.

Aside from the unique collection of guitars, visitors might be captivated also by a painting exhibition.

In order to support and enhance this global rarity, the family of the founder has established a civic association called Guitar Museum. This, in cooperation with the town of Sobrance and celebrities of sociocultural life, aims to give the exposition the level and credit it undoubtedly deserves.
