2 ReviewsExplore beutiful Slovakian capital Bratislava, with a local tour guide
The village is well-known for its 18th century manor house which was built in the Rococo and Classical styles and is surrounded by an extensive English garden.
The original manor house owned by the Madách family burnt down in 1717, before the restored building was on fire again in 1758. Towards the close of the 18th century, Alexander Madách - Imre Madách's grandfather - set about building a new family estate.
Nowadays, a building in Rococo and Classical styles can be seen on the site of the original manor house. It was the home of Hungarian writer and playwright Imre Madách, whose works include the Tragedy of Man. Madách's study room, where the famed work was written, is currently under repair. Nonetheless, the other rooms of the manor house give their visitors an opportunity to see the following exhibitions:
Life and Works of Imre Madách - a Panel Exhibition
Facsimiles of the Collection of Graphic Works: Tragedy of Man by János Kass
Facsimiles of the Collection of Graphic Works: Tragedy of Man by famous painter Mihály Zichy
Zoltán Nagy: Homage to Madách (a collection of graphic works by Z. Nagy)
The manor house features the original furniture and personal objects that document the life and works of the writer, who was born, lived and died here. An exhibition called Imre Madách Lived Here, which showcases historical furniture, has been reinstalled in the manor house.
Imre Madách's tomb is located in the park which surrounds the manor house. The artist's remains were exhumed in 1936 and placed in the park, with a sculpture called Adam by Alojz Rigele guarding the place.
